Qube has teamed up with the Breastfeeding Network (BfN), an independent source of information and support for breastfeeding mothers, their support network and families. We aim to run peer-support groups around Shropshire, where trained BfN volunteers and staff will offer advice, education, encouragement and mentoring on all aspects of infant feeding. At the moment, the groups are in Ludlow, Oswestry and Shrewsbury. These groups welcome expectant parents, breastfeeding mothers and their families. We are looking for volunteers to act as hosts at peer-support groups, welcoming attendees and assisting the Group Helper with ancillary tasks while they are running the group.

What skills do I need?

An Infant Feeding Peer-Support Group host should:

  • be able to communicate clearly with group members, staff and other volunteers.
  • have an interest in and/ or experience of infants and small children
  • be empathetic and non-judgmental towards members of the group
  • have a warm, friendly and welcoming disposition
  • be willing to prepare and serve light refreshments and clear up afterwards
  • be discrete and respect group members' boundaries
  • be proactive and use your initiative to support the Group Helper
  • be reliable and a good time keeper
